This past July we celebrated with great joy the establishment of a new commandery in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

That is not the only celebrating that we are doing this year. Recently the men of Commandery 387 St. John Vianney – Orchard Park, NY began celebrating their Diamond Anniversary. Their year-long celebration kicked off recently with a special mass.

Currently the Commandery is led by President Sir Knight Charlie Brown, and Commander, Captain Ed Orrange. The commandery meets on the second Sunday of every month for mass, after which follows their commandery meeting. The men get together for a pot-luck dinner on the following Saturday as a way to gather in fraternity.

Along with any celebration, the men of 387 are grieving the loss of three of their members to COVID-19 this year.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

The men of 387 are very involved in their parish community, assisting at numerous parish functions along with their liturgical turnouts. The men are also very involved with the Buffalo Grand and Buffalo Regiment, holding key positions through the various committees and boards. The Knights are very supportive of their school at St. John Vianney as well.

The commandery has also been in the national limelight when it comes to the Knights of St. John. They took top honors in the 57th annual Drill and Ceremony competition at the annual convention in Detroit Michigan.

“Put a good bunch of grapes under the winepress, and a delicious juice will come out. Under the winepress of the cross, our soul produces a juice that feeds and strengthens us. When we haven’t got any crosses, we are dry. If we carry them with resignation, what happiness, what sweetness we feel!” ~ John Vianney

The efforts of the men of Commandery 387 are invaluable to our Holy Mother Church, and to our Holy and Noble Order. They are, as St. John Vianney said in this quote, a bunch of good grapes!

Please keep the men of 387 in your prayers as they continue to journey on their Diamond Anniversary, and that their faith, hope, charity, and fraternity, continue to stand the test of time, and that they themselves become like diamonds!
